Ian Nyasha Mutamiri is passionate about leveraging quality technology for social benefits and inspiring young men and women to dream and create. He holds BSc. and MPhil. degrees in Engineering, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate degree in Computer Science. He is an active innovator locally and internationally and works at grassroots levels going up.

COUNTRY PROFILE

This year’s Zimbabwe Africa Science Week’s activities are designed to serve underrepresented groups in STEM which include disadvantaged communities, women and children; as well as to highlight the significance or importance of innovation in Science and Technology as an economic enabler.

A Robotics Obstacle Courses event on the 22nd of September at the ZIE (Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers) offices at Conquenor House in Samora Machel, where high school students from across the country will learn about engineering, assemble land, air and water robots, and navigate through fun and challenging obstacle courses.

A Children’s outreach programme on the 25th of September at the Centre for Total Transformation (CTT). Volunteers in the Science and Technology fields from across the country will spend a day at CTT, inspiring the over 600 children to which the centre gives alternative education. The kids will also have fun learning from various science kids that will be provided.

Finally, a mini science conference on the 28th of September at Wild Geese Lodge to be attended by delegates from all over the region, featuring talks and presentations from some of the country’s most accomplished engineers, mathematicians and scientists. The women coding challenge is surely not to be missed – a fun and challenging coding competition for girls(boys also encouraged to participate). Winners of the competition will be announced at a cocktail event after the mini conference, as delegates enjoy some lovely Zimbabwean music complemented by a beautiful summer sunset.
